First Day…

I don’t know if I am going to be doing a countdown, or a count up really, but anyway the first day is almost over.  I have 3,500 words done on the Mars’ Flight.  Trust me,t hat name will change.  It is a place holder name.

So, broad strokes…It is a science fiction trilogy.  There are elements of space opera and some elements of steampunk in this book.  It takes place in our own solar system, yet there is–I hope–a feel of both future and past in this.  The main thrust of the story is an Empress is trying to capture a young girl for her blood.

There are three characters I have done any kind of work on.  One is the lieutenant of the main antagonist for the trilogy.  His name is Torvash.  I found I am thinking of him more because he is the pov character for the small reader magnet I am writing as well.   (Oh, a big difference between my writing and Chris Fox’s is that I have a tendency to jump around.  I am writing those two at the same time, and I might even start into book two at some point.)  I like writing him for now.

Kesh is the main character and I didn’t have ANY idea what I was going to do with him until I thought back to an older piece of writing in my head.  I connected him to an alien species, in what I think is an interesting way, and now I am chugging along with him.

The last is a smuggler, Han Solo type.  Is female, and a rifle, and a cat.  The cat I already know from doing some writing sprints that will be lots of fun to write.  Jonica I am not sure yet.  I have a good image of her, know her rather screwed up background and not sure what I am going to do with her.  We shall see.

And, I have actually done some writing on the Bloody Empress, the main antagonist.  Blast to write someone who is extremely twisted and evil, yet not only justifies it but some could see she actually has a good reason for doing what she is doing.

So, I am going to continue on my first day.  It is almost up and I want to try and hit 5k before I hit the sack.

I am indeed crazy…

So, yesterday I started to think about trying this challenge of writing three books in twelve weeks.  After sleeping on it and poking at it in my head all day, I have decided to do it.

It is going to be a challenge.  The last one I tried a year ago was writing a novel in 21 days.  I got it done.  Had it up for a bit, but then needed to take it down since I didn’t do a good enough job with the copy edit.  (It will be back up soon.)  It was a struggle, but I made it.  Now, I am going to be working on three books in twelve weeks.  That is rather crazy.

But, I am up to it.  I am currently working notes and the like.  I don’t “start” until midnight PST.  But, I might try for a small early jump to it with plotting and the like.  Which is going to be odd for me since I am a pantser for the most part and don’t really plot until later.  We will see how that goes.

For now, it is a combo of steampunk and space opera.  Who knows, I might be able to make it work.  Or have it crumble into nothing.  But, won’t know either until I try it.

I plan on keeping this blog updated every day, or every other day at the most, with word counts and where I am in the process.  I just opened up the Scrivener document and put in a place holder title, “Mars Flight.”  Why?  Well, I know that the first scene will be on Mars, I have always been a Mars junkie…read my 4Pollack novels.

A good question that could be asked is, “Why don’t you work on the next three books in the Book of the Void series?”  Can’t give you an answer.  I know that I want to do more with that series, but I want to start with something fresh and new.  Don’t worry, I will get back to that series and to 4Pollack as well.

I am going to end this entry now and start up on plotting and world building.  Thank you all for reading and I hope that you follow me as I do this.

Until next time…

Thinking about doing something a little crazy…

So, last year, around this time, I watched and was inspired by Chris Fox and his 21 Day Writing Challenge.  (that is the link to his Day zero.) Last year I tried to follow along with it, ok well I tried to do it in 21 days.  And I cranked out a copy of Void Emissary.  It was good, but I have since taken it down and it is awaiting my final polish on it.  Shouldn’t take me to long to get it back up there.

Well, this year, he has done theTwelve Week novel writing challenge.  In it he’s trying to write three books in a twelve-week span.  And I am kinda looking at it and wondering if I should give it a shot.  Now, I do have some things I have to finish up.  One is the next three installments of Starkiller Chronicle.  (Three is almost done, need to do a once over of it and it will be up very soon promise.)

But I always like to try and challenge myself, pushing myself to work hard and sometimes failing utterly.  Now, while I would not be able to have the same opportunity that Chris Fox has, meaning a way to get a cover done, a full edit, and then get it up on Amazon; I would be able to get three books out of this challenge and have them waiting for editing and waiting for when I can afford a cover for them and get them out.

It is an interesting idea, in my opinion.  To try and push myself to get three novels, all part of the same series mind you, out.  I don’t think these could be three fantasy tomes, which usually run about 120K or so.  These would probably be more sci-fi type novels.  And, since I don’t have the added pressure of having to get all of them out one right after the other, I might even throw in another smaller novella as a kind of “reader magnet” to help when these are all ready to go.  Plus, I would be able to have three books ready to go up on Amazon at once, it would be a trilogy of sorts, plus the reader magnet and it would–could–boost some sales and maybe boost me up in the sales department.

I will drop the hammer on this idea one way or the other tomorrow.  So, keep an eye on the next blog, which I will write at some point tomorrow.

One Year…

It has been a year since I pulled out a moleskine journal, wrote the starting date of 4/20/16 and started to write about becoming a “full time” self-published writer.  I also set out a goal for myself of seven titles by the end fo the year.  And, I made it…barely.  Well, between December 31st of 2016 and Earlier this month, I have done very little writing.  Several issues have sprung up, a big one being my mother’s health.  She is not doing well and I don’t forsee her getting any better.

But, I also have to press on.  If not only for me to make a go of this writing life, but to prove that I can make a living with it.  I am going to make sure that my mother is comfortable, to support my father, but I also need to write as well.

I still plan on following through on my goal that I set at the beginning of the year.  I will push out ten new titles.  I will not be counting the re-publishing of Cryo and Void Emissary–which will be coming within the month.  But I have my eyes set on finishing the I.S.S. Starkiller Chronicles Season One, trying to get Purgatory Ghoul Season One done, get Risen finished, put out a new series called Maze Walker, and put out at least one more book for the 4Pollack series and Void Emissary.  We shall see.

It feels good to have been doing this for a year.  I have not made very much money.  But I am not doing this for the money only.  I am also doing this for the love of writing, to write and share my stories with the world at large.  And, hopefully down the road a little bit, I will get a few more pieces of eight in my pocket.

Well, at the end of the month already…

Well, I have been dragging my feet trying to get writing.  I thought I was doing alright, then just hit wall after wall.  I am still working on the third part of Starkiller.  I do promise that it will get done in the re-write by the second or third of April and send it off to my editor.

On that note, a buddy of mine gave me an idea for something.  I don’t want to get into to much detail about it right now.  But, it could be a fun thing, and maybe get me a few bucks and few new fans.  Will keep you posted on Project X as I go.

So, upcoming projects that I can tell you about.  Well, Starkiller Part three is being re-written as we speak.  it is also going to be longer than my first two parts of the serial.  And the serial might be getting bigger as far as page count goes.  There is also going to be a compilation of all six parts when I am done with this season.  It will be spruced up a little, want to go back and maybe tinker with the first few parts again.  And it will be about $9.99 for all six parts.  Which is a bit of a bargain.  I am also working on a major edit of Cryo.  I am not sure if I aam going to take it down and then put it back up, since Amazon takes forever to get changes done.  Not sure yet, toying with either loading the changes and just hoping and with taking it down.  More on that as it develops.

Summerland is going to be coming out by May at the latest.  I need to set a new deadline for that.  And I will have a nifty little story for all of those who sign up for my mailing list that is a prequel for Summerland.  More on that when it comes out.

Also working on a fantasy that has been in and out of my head for awhile.  This will be an epic story, so it will take some time for me to push it out.  But, it will be out before the end of July.

I hope you are all well and I must get back to re-writing.  Have a pleasant morning, noon, afternoon or evening.  Whatever time you find yourself reading this.

P.S.

I will not wait a month before I update this blog again.  I pinky promise this time.

Hello all, A.K.A. Where the Hells have you been???

Well, this is the first blog post in almost two months, writing this at the very wee hours before 3/1.

As I said in the last post, I took a small break.  And that was the worst mistake of my writing life.  For two months, I struggled to get something down, to finish a few pages, then a few paragraphs.  Heck, I got to the point where I could barely get out a whole sentence.

I am hoping that the dry streak is over.  Tonight, I was finally able to get back on track with the writing, with a whopping 2,320 words.  I have finished what I think is a good rough draft of Starkiller Chapter III.  And, even delved for gently into Chapter Four.  And, I have even done a few paragraphs of the next installment of Risen as well.  Nothing on Purgatory.  I think I might have to set that aside since one, no one is really reading it, from what I can see.  I will finish it.  But, I want to concentrate on Starkiller and Risen first.  Get those two things wrapped up.  I know Starkiller will be back for a Season Two.  Risen is probably just a stand alone, though Cain Kurlow will be back in several more novels.

I have a bunch of work still in the pipeline after I polish up Starkiller and Risen.  One is the fantasy noir Summerland.  Another is a re-written copy of the second 4Pollack novel, Cyro.  I might just re-release it with a different cover since the re-write is going to be big.  I am still waiting for the copy editor to finish it up, but I should have the complete thing soon and then I will start the re-write of it.  Look for that probably in April.

Also working on a much smaller re-write of Void Emissary.  That should be up sooner than April…I hope.

Also, as soon as Summerland and Void Emissary are out, I will be releasing a bundle of the three books, a kind of Lon Varnadore starter pack if you will.  I also plan to have print copies of each of the books up on Amazon around the time of the bundle.

Well, I think I’ll wrap it up.  Great to finally have some news worth sharing with you all.  Also, as a note, there will be some free novella tie-ins with Void Emissary and Summerland.  I will have links.  They will direct you to an email sign-up page but don’t worry, I am not going to sell your name to spammers.  I hate that and would never do it.

Peace…

An apology to my followers…

After my ecstatic announcement of having gotten to my goal earlier in the month, I did something I shouldn’t have done.  I decided to rest a little and take a few days off.  Well, that turned into three weeks of dealing with a parent that is disabled, a bout with a nasty cold that is FINALLY going away and absolutely no writing.

An occasional line here or there.  I did get an edit of my urban fantasy novel, Summerland.  But, beyond that, nothing.  I need to work on the re-write for Summerland.  I need to work on Purgatory and I.S.S. Starkiller and Risen.  I just hit some kind of weird wall the last few weeks of 2016.

Yes, that means that all three of my serials will be late in Jan.  I do apologize to those who are following along.  Trust me, they will get written and will be written with some speed, but the story won’t suffer for it.  I will be kick starting the writing in 2017.

I DID IT!!!

Within a few hours of this post going up, part two of Starkiller and Purgatory: Ghoul are going, or are up.  Purgatory is only up in Smashwords right now, yet once I get a better cover I should be able to have it on Amazon within a few days.

So, why the I DID IT!!!  Well, I achieved my goal I set up for myself when I started this blog and set my sights on being an indie writer.  I have published seven titles.  Cryo, Void Emissary, Starkiller Parts One and Two, Purgatory: Ghoul Parts One and Two and Risen.

Risen WILL be coming out in another ten days.  It is already been set up through a pre-order and I don’t want to mess with the Amazon pre-order since some people might have already purchased it.

So, there you go.  Seven titles since April.  I think that is pretty damn good.  And, what is in the cards for next month? Next year?  Well, I am going to set the goal of ten titles in a year.  Five of them are going to be novels.  One for the 4Pollack series, and two for both the Book of the Void and Summerland.  (Summerland is the first in the series of an urban fantasy series I have been working my butt off trying to get up.  Is up right now for pre-order and will be ready in mid-January.

Risen and updates…

Hey everyone.

Two things; one is that I have the first of a three-part serial called Risen.  It is a little supernatural western I have had for some time.  The first part is coming out Dec. 15th.  The next two are coming out next year, probably once a month.

I am going to put up a sample soon.

I am hard at work at the other two serials as well, which will be released earlier than Risen because…reasons.  😛  (Just didn’t plan it very well.  Happens.)

Anyway, happy reading…

Starkiller is doing well…

screen-shot-2016-11-27-at-12-47-58-pm

Above is a screen grab of today’s Kindle short story best sellers.  As you can see, I.S.S. Starkiller is number 20!  I am pumped.  Plus, gives me more motivation for the second installment that I am currently working on.  Lots of fun.  Hope everything is going well for all of you.

I am off to keep writing.
